LAGUR LEAVING AN IMPRESSION AT THE YOUTH BOAT WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP
LAGUR is sponsoring one of the boats at the World Championships in Yngling in July off Sundby Sailing Association. The boat, which won the Danish Championship in May, is LAGUR 's sales manager in Zealand, Michael Empacher, who is going for his third World Championship gold in the boat class.
It is true that water is the central issue every day for all of us here in LAGUR , but none of us frolics so naturally in the company of the wet element as our sales manager in Zealand, Michael Empacher.
He is a seasoned sailor with World Championship and European Championship medals in various boat classes under his belt, and now, at the age of 62, he is making a comeback at the international top level at the World Championship in his beloved boat class, Yngling.
The reason is that his club throughout his sailing career, Sundby Sailing Association, is hosting the World Youth Sailing Championships from July 22-29.
"Next year I will have been a member of Sundby Sailing Association for 50 years. The World Championships on home soil is a historic event and a huge opportunity that I simply could not say no to. I have sailed Yngling since childhood and have won the World Championships in the boat class in 1986 and 1991 and the Danish Championships in 1987 and 1996," says Michael.
He is competing at the World Cup together with club mates Marc Wain Petersen and Kristian Schaldemose.
The trio will sail in Sundby Sailing Association's own boat, which they have spent the past few months preparing.
LAGUR is among the boat's sponsors and will, among other things, adorn the boat's spars when sailing with the wind.
Before the World Championships, they polished their form in May by winning gold at the Danish Junior Championships , so things are looking promising!
His two fellow guests are 37 years old, but Michael doesn't feel that age is a hindrance.
"Marc and Kristian are skilled sailors, and I'm still in good shape. You're never too old to sail, is my motto, so let's go for the World Championship gold! We'll do that. And I've sailed the World Championship course off Flakfortet and Salthold countless times."
Updated: Big congratulations on the great bronze medal to the trio!!!
