How it works LAGUR with the UN's Sustainable Development Goals

water treatment plant from LAGUR supports a number of the UN's Sustainable Development Goals for a more sustainable planet. Read here about the UN's Sustainable Development Goals and how LAGUR working with them.

There is a lot of talk about the UN's Sustainable Development Goals, but they also need to be acted upon if they are to make a difference for our planet, its climate and nature, and the people who inhabit it.

IN LAGUR We work purposefully with the UN Sustainable Development Goals. We see the SDGs as a good and practical way to make products and companies more responsible. The UN Sustainable Development Goals provide a good overview of what can and should be done to create a more sustainable world – economically, socially and environmentally. It's just a matter of doing it, so to speak!

What are the UN's global goals?

The UN's Sustainable Development Goals are sometimes referred to by the English abbreviation SDG, which stands for Sustainable Development Goals.

And that is precisely the essence of the UN's Sustainable Development Goals: development that meets the needs of current generations must not endanger the ability of future generations to meet their needs.

This basis for common, global Sustainable Development Goals was first formulated in the so-called Brundtland Report from 1987, where the concept of sustainability for the first time encompassed the social, economic and environmental aspects of our life on Earth.

A duty for all countries

The UN Sustainable Development Goals in their current form, with 17 goals and 169 targets, were adopted at a UN summit in 2015.

The SDGs commit all UN member states to completely eradicate poverty and hunger in the world, reduce inequality, ensure good education and better health for all, decent jobs and more sustainable economic growth.

And while the debate about climate, the environment and sustainability may be marked by finger-pointing and dire predictions, progress has also been made. According to the UN, global poverty has fallen by almost 75 percent since 1990, and two billion people have gained access to improved drinking water.

We will push the globe in the right direction

In Denmark we have some of the best and healthiest drinking water in the world. Let's take good care of it! Even when we want to be free from limescale problems !

We have developed LAGUR to get conventional chemical water softening to life. Therefore, our water treatment plant not on the water's chemistry, the water's taste and the water's content of limescale and minerals.

When you buy a water treatment plant from LAGUR , you are thus helping to push the globe in the right direction. LAGUR supports four of the UN Sustainable Development Goals:

No. 6: Clean water and sanitation.

No. 12: Responsible consumption and production.

No. 13: Climate.

No. 14: Life in the sea.

NO. 6: Clean water and sanitation

In Denmark we are privileged. We can turn on the water and drink from the tap without worries. In many other places on the planet the water is contaminated with chemicals and bacteria.

Global Goal No. 6 is about, among other things, improving water quality by reducing pollution, stopping dumping and minimizing the release of hazardous chemicals and materials.

A LAGUR -system does not use hazardous chemicals and its effect limits the need to use harsh cleaning agents with chemicals. In addition, it emits a LAGUR -no wastewater plants.

LAGUR simply transforms the structure of limescale , so you can more easily maintain your fixtures, tiles and appliances and still enjoy all the natural benefits of water.

We must use water efficiently.

It is also part of Global Goal 6 that we must become better at using water efficiently to reduce the number of people suffering from water scarcity. This contributes LAGUR by significantly limiting daily water consumption in households and businesses that use our systems.

The world's ecosystems in and around water must be protected and, if possible, restored. By not discharging wastewater at all, LAGUR nor salt and other chemicals in nature – not even when LAGUR -treated water is used outside, for example in the garden.

NO. 12: Responsible consumption and production

We must use and manage our natural resources sustainably, is the ambition in Global Goal 12.

LAGURs water treatment plant contain no wearing parts and require no maintenance. They can be repaired when necessary and can be disassembled after use so that all materials can be recycled.

Unlike ordinary water softening plants user LAGUR not salt, which therefore does not need to be extracted and transported.

Responsible packaging solutions

When it comes to packaging, LAGUR replaced foam with CO2-neutral cardboard in the packaging of its products HOME -plant and is working on a correspondingly more sustainable solution for its PRO -plant.

Our new boxes for PRO -systems in residential properties and businesses are made from recycled aluminum, and the boxes for our HOME -systems for private use are made from recycled plastic.

Easier cleaning without chemicals

Goal 12 also calls for the management of all chemicals and waste products in an environmentally sound manner throughout their life cycle. The release of these substances to air, water and land must be significantly reduced to minimize harm to human health and the environment.

With LAGUR fewer cleaning agents are used, and LAGUR makes it easier to clean with eco-labeled products without chemicals. LAGUR does not use chemicals and does not discharge wastewater.

The sub-goal that we must significantly reduce the amount of waste on the planet through prevention, reduction, reuse and recycling supports LAGUR by extending the life of plumbing installations, heating elements, nozzles, shower heads, etc. A LAGUR -systems last a long time, can be repaired, disassembled and recycled.

We take back all our equipment at no cost to the customer, and we have launched the concept LAGUR Refurbishment, which we offer to companies and housing associations whose systems are approaching 10 years old. LAGUR Refurbishing consists of us servicing our customers' LAGUR PRO systems and gives them a new 10-year warranty of the same duration as we give on brand new systems.

Collaboration with companies

It is also a sub-goal in the UN's Sustainable Development Goals that we should all encourage the world's companies to work sustainably. In LAGUR We encourage companies to limit their emissions of CO2 and chemicals, and we enter into partnerships with, for example, prefabricated house companies to contribute to more sustainable consumption of water and ensure a longer lifespan for white goods and other installations in the construction of the future.

Our goal is that our customers can use our products to limit their own resource consumption and their own climate impact, and for that they must have documentation.

In 2023 we got LAGUR prepared our first ESG report and in this context also our first climate report. In our ESG report, companies, advisors and partners can see how LAGUR working with different forms of sustainability.

Studies show that our LAGUR PRO plants help companies reduce their CO2 and chemical emissions. We are working to document the effect precisely so that companies can use this in their own reporting.

NO. 13: Climate

We must act quickly to combat climate change and its consequences, says Global Goal No. 13. Local production and minimal transport are important tools for reducing emissions of CO2 and other greenhouse gases.

LAGUR 's climate accounting of our emissions in scope 1, 2 and 3 shows that LAGUR as a company has emissions equivalent to 135 kg CO2e (CO2 equivalents) per water treatment plant , we sell. That would be equivalent to the emissions associated with the production of 12 t-shirts or 405 cucumbers.

LAGUR -systems are produced in Denmark, where there is a high level of green electricity, and they require no transport other than to the installation itself.

In addition, the systems have very low power consumption during operation. LAGUR HOME for villas uses approximately 100 kWh per year, while LAGUR PRO uses approximately 350 kWh per year.

NO. 14: Life in the sea

Global Goal No. 14 is about conserving and ensuring sustainable use of the world's oceans and their resources.

Both pollution and so-called acidification harm animal and plant life in the world's oceans. In step with industrialization and our emissions of CO2, the pH value in the oceans has fallen because the ocean water absorbs CO2 from the atmosphere. For many organisms in the ocean, life is linked to narrow pH ranges.

With its low power consumption and by not using salt and chemicals, it reduces LAGUR the carbon footprint we create when we want a home without limescale problems . LAGUR also uses less water and does not discharge wastewater with chemical residues – benefiting the global water cycle and life in the world's oceans.
