LAGUR® Does not remove the limescale, but simply changes its shape

The story of LAGUR starts with Danish engineer and inventor Olav René Nielsen, who developed a new type of water treatment that could eliminate limescale problems without removing the limescale from the water.

LAGUR was founded in 2014 by Olav René Nielsen, Claus Kjær Jensen and Simon Sørensen, after the three founders had tested the new water treatment plant in various contexts where large amounts of water were used.

Thus, the first three water treatment plant were installed at a pig farm, a mink farm, and a hotel.

When the efficiency of the systems was evaluated after six months, there was no mistaking it: In the hotel, cleaning the toilets, wet room tiles and fittings had become much easier, so everything looked nice and new for the guests. The pig farmer had not cleaned nozzles for six months, and the mink farmer had no problems with limescale and biofilm in the pex pipes.

Since its inception in 2014, LAGUR installed several thousand systems in Danish detached houses, apartment buildings, companies, shopping centers and office buildings, etc. Today, we deliver LAGUR water for more than 50,000 Danes.

In 2026, the group of owners was expanded with Jens Obel and Dan Iversen, who bought the majority of shares in LAGUR A/S. Dan Iversen also joined as CEO. The existing owners – Sune Diernæs, Simon Sørensen and Claus Kjær Jensen – will continue in key positions in the company.

We are called what we are.

And why are we called that? LAGUR ?

The word LAGUR– and many variants thereof – means 'water' in the runic language. In addition to being the symbol for the sound 'L', our logo is the recurring symbol for water in the runic alphabets used in Norse and Germanic culture from the 2nd century AD and for the next 1,000 years or so. For example, the symbol for water was one of only 16-19 runes in the Viking rune alphabet.

Water was – and is – the most important thing we have here on Earth. Just like us, our ancestors knew that water was a condition for life. Today, we also know scientifically that the presence of liquid water has been crucial for the emergence of life, and no matter where on Earth we find examples of life, water is present.

The fundamental philosophy behind LAGUR is that water is, in many ways, perfect just as it is. In terms of health, the limescale content is a sign of quality, because water, together with limescale, collect many minerals on its way through the soil layers.

That is why LAGUR doesn't remove the limescale, but simply changes its form.

Our mission

LAGUR's mission is to eliminate conventional and chemical water treatment known as "water softening" —and other forms of resource-intensive water treatment, and instead offer all private and professional customers chemical-free water treatment that protects the planet and respects the unique, healthy resource that is our water.

LAGUR is a private and Danish-owned company with Danish production and a strong foundation in the Danish market.

Though LAGUR As we grow and have ambitions to bring the solution to more international markets, we are holding on to our Danish foundation and the culture the company is built on.

We have a flat organization with short decision-making paths and close collaboration across departments and competencies. It is part of LAGUR's DNA to lift as a team and help each other where needed.
